WPs Description

The following work packages (WPs) provide a description of the activities and means involved in the implementation of the GAS-OFF project:

WP 1: reduction of the production of green-house gases in dairy cows
(Involved organizations: UNIMI - DSA, Azienda Tadini, Società Agricola Tadini, APA Milano – Lodi)

  • In vitro tests of diets that minimize methane emissions
  • In situ tests of the influence of some diets tested of the rumen degradability of SS and NDF of the main forages used
  • In vivo tests for the determination of carbon dioxide and methane production in lactation cows fed with different diets
  • Experimental feeding trials
  • Monitoring zoo technical companies, operational support and demonstrative tests in pilot farms

WP 2: INFLUENCE OF BIOMASS CROPS  PRODUCTION AND MANAGEMENT OF LIVESTOCK EFFLUENTS AND DIGESTATE ON THE CARBON BALANCE OF THE FARM

  • Production of biomass crops and demonstrative field tests
  • Energy and productive balance of rotations for the production of biomass and zoo technical feeds
  • Mitigation of GHG deriving from biomass crops, zoo technique wastewater and agrotechnics
  • Demonstrative actions: optimization of the use of biomass crops in a biogas plant not using zoo technique wastewater

WP 3: LYFE CYCLE AND ECONOMIC ASSESSMENT OF AN INTEGRATED ENERGY/DAIRY  SYSTEM

  • Life Cycle Analysis
  • Environmental and economic evaluation of the integrated zoo technic and bioenergy system

WP 4: DESIGN PLANNING AND RESTRUCTURING
(Involved organizations: UNIMI - VSA, Azienda Tadini, SocietĂ  Agricola Tadini)

  • Evaluation on the emissive potential of the different stabling systems (paving) and manure management used in the cowsheds in order to improve the performances of the biogas plant and reduce environmental impact
  • Optimization of the efficiency of the biogas plant
  • Individuation of the best management system for the effluents depending their energy valorisation in a biogas plant
  • Different feeding systems of a biogas plant
  • Composting of digestate and biomass from perennial crops and crop residuals
