Brief description of the Project

The LIFE ENV 09 IT 000214 GAS-OFF  - Integrated strategies for GHG mitigation in dairy farms- project gathers six Italy-based organizations – universities, dairy farms, professional associations –, having a strong experience in operating in the agro-zoo technical and environmental field.

The main aim of the GAS-OFF project is to carry out an integrated evaluation of target solutions to be applied in order to reduce green house gas emissions (CO2, N2O, CH4) in dairy farms and replace the use of fossil fuels, optimizing the efficiency of the biogas plant  and the production of biomasses from cultivations. Furthermore activities aimed at increasing farmers’ and technicians’ awareness on this theme and at sensitizing public stakeholders to update environmental guidelines and regulations adding new innovative natural solutions will be implemented.

The project is addressed to a wide number of stakeholders: farms and zoo technical companies strictly linked and interested to the feed production on the territory, public authorities at local (provincial) and regional level, companies related to the production of biogas, breeders consortia.

The project received a grant in the framework of the Environment Policy & Governance Component of the Life + European programme. It responds to the Climate Change Objective of the Life + programme.
The project duration is 39 months, starting on the 1st October 2010 and finishing on the 31st December 2013.
